January 5, 2010 (Hanoi, Vietnam) — In a ceremony at the Ministry of Construction in Hanoi, Nikken Sekkei signed a contract today to provide consulting services for investment and design of Vietnam’s new National Museum of History.
The Museum, part of the city’s urban plan through 2020, will house the country’s national and historical treasures in a building to be constructed on the banks of Hanoi’s West Lake. Through embodiment of traditional Asian architecture, it is hoped that the building will inspire a new generation of Vietnamese architects.
Nikken was among 27 international firms competing for the rights to the project and was named the winner in July 2008.
In attendance at the signing was Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Pham Khanh, who urged the Museum’s Project Management Unit and Nikken to work closely in order to see the project to fruition, and who encouraged Nikken to collaborate with agencies of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Mr Khanh also requested the Ministry of Construction to extend full support to Nikken’s efforts in the project.
