Outline

This center for environmental study and environmental protection activities in Kagoshima City is constructed along the Kotsuki River. With the idea of “creating green”, a large part of the building is indeed covered in greenery, creating a “green earth”. Using the abundant underground water along Kotsuki River for a number of usages including air-conditioning systems, together with bringing in natural light, natural ventilation, and the application of photovoltaic power generation etc., the natural resources of Kagoshima are used whenever possible. Locally available, natural, renewable source materials were utilized in the landscaping and choices of timbers.
