Meguro Gajoen first opened its doors in 1928. One of the notable sights of Tokyo, it is decorated with works of fine arts and exquisite craftsmanship, and it is often referred to as a ryugu-jo ("fairytale dragon palace"). In 1991, the original hotel and banquet facilities were renovated, and a new building containing offices and commercial facilities was added. The design is based on traditional Japanese architecture, yet it makes full use of all the modern elements necessary for contemporary life and business. Lacquering and other time-honored artistic techniques have been skillfully utilized for a welcoming contemporary space that remains characteristically Japanese.
