Katsuya Kawashima joined Nikken Sekkei in 1981 after earning his master’s degree at Kyoto University. He specializes in architectural design. Since 1997, he has been leading various projects as chief architect, and has received many honors, including the Architectural Institute of Japan's (AIJ) Selected Architectural Designs award. He has led various projects, including Lake Biwa Museum (1996), Kobe Customs Headquarters (1999), Amami Hospital (2003), Mukogawa Women's University Architectural Department Architectural Studio for Graduate Students (2007), Izumo City Hall (2009), Nakanoshima Daibiru Building (2009), Grand Front Osaka (2013), Daibiru-Honkan Building (2013), Akagane Museum (2015), and DiayaGate Ikebukuro (2019), among others. He continues to be involved in a wide range of projects, including Kyoto City Hall. He is a registered first-class architect and a member of the AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan).
