Yuta Sano completed his Master of Architecture degree at the University of Melbourne in 2015 after graduating from Kogakuin University. During graduate school, he researched “design methodologies for transforming memories and narratives into spatial expressions.” He worked at Mitsubishi Jisho Design for five years, during which he served as the lead architect for the Japan Football Association’s flagship project, JFA Dream Field.
Sano joined Nikken Sekkei in 2021. After working at the Architectural Design Department and at the Nikken Activity Design lab (NAD) for new field development, he used his architectural expertise across domains that included urban space renewal (roadside architecture and parks), micro-public spaces, and station-front development concepts. In 2025, he went on to serve as lead designer for the Machida Ekimae Exchange Hub “hatmachida” project. Sano sees architecture as a means to connect human sensibilities and society, and finds joy in creating unprecedented worlds and experiences through dialogue and co-creation with diverse stakeholders. Since 2023, he has also been a part-time lecturer at Kogakuin University.
