Corporate Ethics

Nikken Sekkei continues to adhere to corporate ethics, in line with the changing times, while carrying on the spirit of the “Employee Code of Conduct” established at the time of its founding.

Compliance Initiatives

At the Nikken Group, compliance is defined as “each individual enhancing their expertise and acting with a high sense of ethics and responsibility in order to earn the trust of society, our clients, and our colleagues.” To promote sound organizational management and internal environment development, the Compliance Liaison Committee has been set up to regularly review the effectiveness of our initiatives and make improvements as necessary. Specific awareness-raising activities include the Compliance Handbook from the Compliance Office, as well as the planning and conducting of training programs for employees.

Establishment of the Internal Reporting System

Nikken Sekkei has established a compliance consultation and reporting desk, in accordance with the Whistleblower Protection Act, which ensures the anonymity of reporters while enabling communication between Nikken Sekkei staff and reporters regarding the reported content.

Column: Principles Behind the Employee Code of Conduct

In 1933 (year eight of Japan’s Showa era), when Nikken Sekkei predecessor Hasebe-Takekoshi Kenchiku Jimusho, was founded, the Employee Code of Conduct was established, outlining the fundamental guidelines for office operations.

The opening statement reads: “First, those involved in architectural design and supervision should strive to cultivate their character, as the nature of their work demands, and endeavor to become individuals worthy of the trust of society, both as technical professionals and as members of the community.” The guidelines include provisions on personal development, health considerations, the continued provision of fresh and accurate proposals, with a focus on the future, the refinement of design techniques, quality control in design and supervision, confidentiality obligations regarding design, and the proper storage of original drawings.
