Suvarnabhumi International Passenger Terminal II
Winner BRIDGES AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Undertaken on a mandate from Airport of Thailand (AOT), Suvarnabhumi International Passenger Terminal II was designed under a “forest” theme to enable visitors to “rediscover” Thailand from an ecological perspective. The unusual plan elegantly expresses the look of a Thai tropical forest by replacing conventional expensive long-span terminal roof structure with two prominent modular grids that cover some 348,000 square meters. It is the first airport design in the world to embody a natural tropical ecological system within a man-made architecture.
