Urban Evolutions
A Japanese Approach to Urban Revitalization


Nikken Sekkei, as a leading Japanese design consultancy, has contributed to urban regeneration in Japan through countless types and scales of projects throughout the years. The Urban Evolutions seminar to be held at the URA building in downtown Singapore on November 29, 2018 will introduce a number of recent projects across a broad spectrum of disciplines that attempt to create ‘New value’ extending beyond the plot boundaries, sustaining society and transforming perceptions.

Themes covered by Nikken Sekkei presenters:
From Station to Destination
Wataru Tanaka will examine how stations can become more than just functional portals to transportation, integrating transit, development and lifestyle to become a Destination 
From Gray to Green
Shoji Kaneko will demonstrate how existing functional, off limits infrastructure can be transformed to become a community focal point, turning Gray infrastructure into green infrastructure
From Sepia to Full Color
Takamori Yamazaki will present on how new redevelopment can bring back a sense of past cultural spirit to a whole district 
From Concrete to Timber
Tomohiko Yamanashi will present new innovative thinking about materials and structure leading to more a sustainable urban built form and reduced environmental burden. 
A reception will be held following the Seminar and excerpts from the presentations will be reproduced in a temporary exhibition to be held in the URA public foyer from November 29 through December 11, 2018.
