Nikken Sekkei Singapore Branch Starts Operations: The new strategic hub of the Nikken Group in the ASEAN region
Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (President & CEO: Keiichi Okamoto) established its Singapore branch as the new hub of business in the ASEAN region, and launched operations from January 6, 2014. Following the Shanghai office covering East Asia, and the Dubai office covering the Middle East and CIS, this office is Nikken Sekkei's new strategic base covering the entire ASEAN region.
Specifically, the Singapore branch is positioned as the hub of the network of bases already established in the ASEAN region (Nikken Sekkei: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh; Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Vientiane), with the mission to expand business operations in the entire ASEAN region and Hong Kong, and to enhance client services.

・High anticipations are held on the growth of urban development and property investment in the ASEAN region. Asia's share of global construction investment is projected to rise from 31 percent in 2005 to about 46 percent in 2020. The market is also expected to expand from perspectives including future economic growth, population growth, and GDP per capita.
・Aggressive real estate investment by Japanese companies in the ASEAN region is also accelerating. Nikken Sekkei hopes to contribute to these Japanese companies by providing them with the expertise gained by the Nikken Group in the ASEAN region and other areas.
・After studying various candidate locations in the ASEAN countries, it was decided to open the branch in Singapore because of its concentration of investors and information on projects in the ASEAN region, and also from perspectives such as its business environment and air accessibility.

・With regard to TOD, the Smart TOD Forum in Jakarta/ASEAN (hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia and the ASEAN Working Group, Smart City Project (Chair: Mitsuo Nakamura, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nikken Sekkei)) was held at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan to Indonesia on November 19, 2013. At the forum, government and private sector participants showed great interest in TOD as an approach to solve urban problems in Asia's high-density urban environment and promote the development of smart cities. Through such events, Nikken Sekkei hopes to contribute to urban development in the ASEAN region while also working in collaboration with Japanese companies from various fields.
