AVIATIONSELECTED PROJECTS40The new Hanoi Airport is planned as an international hub ultimately accommodating50 million passengers annually, based on a phased expansion approach. We have centred our proposed passenger terminal design around the concept of a“growing terminal”, enabling flexible adaptation to future demand.Symbolising this concept is the bold, segmented roof following passenger flow lines.Deeply integrating Vietnam’s rich greenery into the buffer zones within these segmentscreates an environment where nature and architecture coexist.Unlike conventional vast, unified spaces, the compartmentalised passenger handlingareas, gently connected by green belts, offer travellers the comfort and charm ofstrolling through a forest. The approach of segmenting the terminal offers distinct advantages: excellent adaptability for phased expansion, renewability that minimises operational disruption, and structural and environmental rationality. Thus, this terminal, growing incrementally while harmonising with nature, creates a rich and memorable travel experience befitting Vietnam’s gateway to the future.GIA BINH INTERNATIONALAIRPORT CONCEPT DESIGNCOMPETITIONHANOI, VIETNAM
