One Za’abeel Grand Opening Dazzles in Dubai

(Dubai, United Arab Emirates) – Grand opening festivities for the Nikken Sekkei-designed One Za’abeel project in Dubai were held from Feb. 9-11 with lavish brunches, dinners, A-list celebrity parties, red carpet events, private concerts and a dazzling light show. Luxury hospitality brand One&Only One Za’abeel sponsored the extravaganza, as it celebrated the opening of its first venture into urban resorts. Attendees included members of the U.A.E. Royal Family, major stakeholders, Nikken Sekkei Chairman Tadao Kamei, President and CEO Atsushi Omatsu and Nikken Sekkei Dubai CEO Dr. Fadi Jabri.

Developed by the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), One Za’abeel is an iconic landmark for U.A.E.’s capital, and the first major real estate development visitors see when traveling to the city center from Dubai International Airport. Its main structures include the 305m-tall One Za’abeel Tower, the 235m-tall One Za’abeel The Residences, “THE LINK” – a 230m-long skybridge that dissects the high-rises 100 meters above a busy highway, and the three-story podium.

“The grand opening of One&Only One Za’abeel has been a much-anticipated event.” said One Za’abeel Director Issam Galadari. “This lively weekend celebrated what promises to be a fruitful endeavor with an abundance of memorable moments.”

Constructed along an east-to-west axis, THE LINK’s unique structure delivers spectacular 360-degree views of the Dubai skyline from sunrise to sunset. Positioned at the entrance to the international financial district, the site affords quick access to the downtown area.

One Za’abeel’s total of 530,000 square meters of mixed-use floor area includes 12,000 square meters of retail space, 26,000 square meters of office space, and new luxury residences ranging from one- to four-bedroom apartments and duplexes to a five-bedroom penthouse. Kerzner International is the operator of the resort and hospitality facilities through its One&Only One Za’abeel and SIRO One Za’abeel brands and 11 fine dining outlets.

The skyscrapers’ exteriors are made of low-e glass with high transparency and high solar shielding performance. Glass fins offer a variety of optical expressions to outside observers, depending on the viewing angle. The fins’ dotted white patterns provide solar shielding and soften the structure’s “mirror effect”, creating a sense of depth. LEED GOLD certification has been achieved through numerous environmental initiatives, helping to address the U.A.E.’s “net-zero” 2050 emissions target.

“We wanted to create an elegant building that both represents the spirit of Dubai and provides a strong gateway for the city,” said Nikken Sekkei Chief Architect Koko Nakamura.

“One Za’abeel represents one of the boldest new additions to the skyline of Dubai and a genuine engineering feat,” said Dr. Fadi Jabri, CEO of Nikken Sekkei Dubai (NIKKEN SEKKEI FZ-LLC). “It serves as a gateway to modern Dubai, as well as a must-see world-class travel destination.
