As a member of the local community, Nikken Sekkei is committed to creating spaces that support the healthy lives of local residents and providing venues that promote interaction among people. Furthermore, leveraging its expertise in design and architecture, Nikken Sekkei shares its technology and knowledge in the fields of architecture and urban planning with diverse stakeholders through endowed lectures at universities and support for social ventures. Through these efforts, Nikken Sekkei strives to cultivate the next generation of talent and contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
Community development initiatives at Iida-machi I-Garden
Our company participated as an urban planning consultant in the "Iida-machi I-Garden" development project on the former site of Japan Freight Railway (JR Freight), contributing to the creation of a favorable urban environment and the formation of a wide-area, continuous green space connecting the Imperial Palace and Korakuen Garden.
Furthermore, by purchasing a portion of the land in the South District and constructing our Tokyo Head Office building there, we are actively involved in the overall spatial design of the district and in fostering the newly formed local community.

The former freight station site was redeveloped to connect the green spaces of the Imperial Palace and Korakuen Garden.

By securing a network of green spaces and open areas, we contribute to creating an environment that promotes collaboration with surrounding areas and improves walkability.
The ground floors of each building in the South District house corporate galleries and showrooms, which are open to the community and contribute to enhancing the attractiveness of the streetscape and creating a lively atmosphere. In addition, regular community interaction and collaborative efforts by local residents are continuously carried out throughout the year, including festivals, disaster prevention drills, and early morning cleanups by volunteers.

Working in collaboration with diverse stakeholders, Nikken Sekkei broadly shares its expertise through events that showcase the appeal of architecture and cities, contributing to community revitalization and sustainable urban development.
Main events
Tokyo Architecture Festival
Under the theme of "Experiencing people and understanding the city through architecture," this event opens up historical and modern buildings in Tokyo that are normally inaccessible to the public, allowing them to connect with the thoughts of those involved in architecture, rediscover the city's charm, and provide an opportunity to think about the future. For the first event in 2024, Nikken Sekkei planned and conducted an architectural guided tour in the Kyobashi district in collaboration with a client. For the second event in 2025, in addition to an architectural guided tour of the Palace Side Building, they held a drawing exhibition at the Nikken Sekkei Tokyo Head Office Building, widely disseminating the cultural value and appeal of architecture to local residents and visitors.
Living Architecture Museum Festival Osaka (IKEFES Osaka)
Since its inception in 2014, this event has attracted over 60,000 visitors and is one of Japan's largest architectural events, offering free public access to Osaka's most attractive buildings. It aims to foster a sense of attachment to the city and civic pride, while simultaneously promoting new architectural value through collaboration between citizens, businesses, and the government, ultimately contributing to Osaka's urban development. Nikken Sekkei supports this philosophy and has been actively participating since 2016, setting up exhibition areas and cafes within its Osaka office and hosting guided tours led by architects for visitors.

NIKKEN FORUM
With the aim of widely sharing the latest knowledge and technologies related to architecture and urban design, we have been holding the "NIKKEN FORUM," a free public forum, four times a year since 1988. Composed primarily of lectures by experts from various fields and talk sessions with our executives and employees, it serves as a platform for lively discussions on the latest trends in the architectural industry and diversifying social issues, attracting participation from a wide range of people.

Our company's volunteer club (positioned as an internal club activity) is engaged in East Japan Earthquake recovery support activities utilizing our expertise. We conduct unique activities while communicating with people in the affected areas, such as presenting 3D maps of the tsunami-affected areas, holding various workshops, conducting interviews with people from fields other than architecture, cooperating in the formulation of recovery plans, and projects to improve the living environment of temporary housing.
