Nikken Sekkei and Chengdu Railway Group establish joint venture Nikken Chengdu to jointly explore the unique TOD (Transit-Oriented Dock) station-centered urban development in Chengdu.

On June 11, Chengdu Rail Transit Group and Nikken Sekkei held a signing ceremony for a joint venture agreement in Chengdu.Mr. Hu Qinghan, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of Chengdu Rail Transit Group, attended the ceremony. Mr. Shen Weiping, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and General Manager of Chengdu Rail Transit Group, and Mr. Senior Executive Officer, Director of Nikken Sekkei, along with Mr. Atsushi Ohmatsu, Head of the Urban Division, signed the joint venture agreement on behalf of their respective parties.
Also in attendance were Mr. Xu Ping, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Chengdu Rail Transit Group; Mr. Guo Zhihong, Deputy General Manager; Mr. Gou Mingzhong, Deputy Chief Engineer;Huang Minghua, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board of the Rail Transit Development Group; Fu Kainan, General Manager of Urban Division Operations in China at Nikken Sekkei and Chairman of the Nikken Dalian Office; and Eiichi Imamura, General Manager of the General Affairs and Information Services Department at Nikken Sekkei Corporate Department, also attended the signing ceremony and jointly witnessed this historic moment.

The joint venture, Nikken Chengdu, is primarily focused on providing consulting services—including the planning and design of comprehensive development projects—in areas surrounding train stations, and marks Nikken Sekkei’s first joint venture in its 119-year history.Nikken Sekkei has handled numerous TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) urban planning and design projects in Japan and possesses extensive experience in coordinating the interests of the government and various development entities, as well as in the design and implementation of key facilities.In Chengdu, the firm won the international competition for the urban design and planning of the Renbei CBD and underground space around Chengdu North Station, as well as the urban design competition for the integrated TOD station town at Chengdu East Station; it has also actively participated in consulting for several key TOD model projects for the Chengdu Rail Transit Group.
The joint venture, Nikken Chengdu, represents a significant step in Nikken Sekkei’s internationalization process and holds great significance for the realization of world-class TOD development in Chengdu—a “park city”—aiming for the advanced integration of “people, city, environment, and industry.”NIKKEN SEKKEI will leverage its strengths, further strengthen its support in terms of specialized technology and human resources, delve deeply into Chengdu’s unique characteristics, and organically integrate rail transportation with urban development to contribute to the pursuit of international-standard TOD development in Chengdu.
