Completed in 2019, Yamato Konan Building was conceived as a place “to inspire innovation” in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Yamato Group, a leading Japanese home delivery services concern. The futuristic structure provides a solution for the need to equitably intertwine urban office buildings and infrastructure facilities with people and vehicles in a “double helix” layered spiral architecture.
The 10-story building efficiently combines a distribution center, a research center, a corporate museum, training facilities, and a café. Nikken Sekkei shouldered full design and supervision responsibilities for this Tokyo project, which won in ARCASIA’s Awards Category C for industrial buildings.
