Future Spotify Camp Nou Wins Honors at International Architecture Award 2023
Future Spotify Camp Nou, a project designed by Nikken Sekkei in collaboration with b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos and engineering firm IDOM, has been selected as a winner at the International Architecture Awards (IAA) 2023.
A ceremony was held at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece on September 15. Nikken Sekkei Senior Executive Officer and Global Business Department Head Masakazu Kimura attended the event along with Architectural Design Department Associate Daisuke Ibano.
The accolade marks the 20th edition of the annual international award. The IAA is one of the most prestigious honors to recognize outstanding architectural designs. Over 750 projects from around the world were submitted for evaluation.
Future Spotify Camp Nou is based on a winning 2016 renovation design proposal by Nikken Sekkei and Pascual-Ausió Arquitectes. The ambitious overhaul strives to preserve the essence of the original design and strengthening the facility’s identity and Catalan tradition while embracing openness and connection with the city of Barcelona.
The IAA is organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. An exhibition of IAA award-winning projects entitled "The City and the World" is currently being held at Contemporary Space Athens from September 8 to October 1.
