Nikken Sekkei is participating in ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT (*1) In collaboration with the Shibuya Future Design General Incorporated Association (hereinafter “Shibuya Future Design”), we launched “WORK PARK PACK,” a social experiment project aimed at utilizing the waterfront space along the Shibuya River known as “Shibuya River Street” as part of our efforts to redevelop public spaces, on Friday, March 1.
Accordingly, we are accepting applications for experimental partners and the first round of implementation ideas at Shibuya River Street through Sunday, March 31. Ideas that are selected will be implemented as experimental projects during the social experiment period.
About the WORK PARK PACK Project
This project takes a broad view of the meaning of “WORK” and aims to openly create and discuss the possibilities of WORK not only with business professionals but with everyone who lives and is active in Shibuya. This is a social experiment that explores “Public Space × WORK” in actual public spaces. By utilizing PARK PACK (*2)—a tool designed to unlock the potential of public spaces—we are testing ideas for utilizing the area along the Shibuya River in ways unique to that location.

(*1) What is the ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT?
A unit formed by members from three companies: Rhizomatiks Architecture, TYO, and Dentsu Live. Starting with Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH 2018, Nikken Sekkei and Propeller & Company have joined the group. Under the banner of “We are the city,” we will approach and propose urban development not from the perspective of physical infrastructure, but from the perspective of various people-centered software solutions.
(*2) What is PARK PACK?
The mobile park "PARK PACK" was proposed as part of the event content after receiving an offer from the Tokyo Midtown, which organizes the design event "Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH 2018" (October 19 ~ November 4, 2018), to create a "park of the future." Various tools included in the "PARK PACK" transform the park into a new playground for the future, a live stage, a museum, and a variety of activities and programs.
