Nikken Sekkei Presents Tadawul Tower at High-rise Projects KSA

Fairmont Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 4 – 5 December, 2019. Nikken Sekkei was among the main panelists at High-rise Projects KSA, the only high-rise projects event in Saudi Arabia with practical and implementable lessons and solutions. The opening discussion saw Nikken Sekkei’s Associate, Senior Manager, and General Manager for Nikken Sekkei’s Riyadh Branch, Mr. Jan Henckens talk about “Design Quality - the Architects Challenge, from Paper to Reality”. The opening panel, during which he also discussed with other esteemed members of the industry, focused on the challenges and possibilities in creating the Kingdom’s iconic structures and  upcoming projects. The discussion also included the designing of architectural marvels and identity, the future of high-rise projects in Saudi Arabia, and the innovations in façade and façade lighting for creating landmark buildings. On the second day, under the theme“Beyond Striking Architecture”, Mr. Henckens explored the architect's challenge of translating design quality into built reality, and introduced lessons learned, among others, on one of the most iconic of Nikken Sekkei’s high-rise projects in Saudi Arabia, the Tadawul Tower.

Tadawul Tower is a 200-metre-tall office building rising among the developing King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh. The project balances construction value, sustainability and iconic design, and is set to become a beacon for business, facilitating financial exchange and entrepreneurial activities for the entire region. Its design emerges from a thorough study of the site and regional conditions and integrates constructability and sustainability, efficient and effective use of the space, and appropriate regard for issues of privacy, security and safety. Furthermore, several high-tech features have been introduced to minimize solar and heat gain. Tadawul Tower won “Best International high-rise Architecture” at the Int’l Property Awards 2013-2014.

As part of the GM Events' Construction series, The High-rise Projects KSA is the event that brings in regional stakeholders and international service providers to discuss the best and worst practices in design and construction of high-rise, tall, mega-tall and skyscrapers in the Kingdom.

This year’s inaugural edition was attended by several hundred people, representing a mix of consultancies, contractors, specialists and government entities in a show of great interest for the Saudi construction market.
