Makoto Wakabayashi joined Nikken Sekkei in 1985, after earning a master's degree at Toyohashi University of Technology. His field of specialty is architectural design. He has mainly been in charge of educational and government buildings. His portfolio spans a wide range of architectural design fields, including Mode Gakuen Spiral Towers, a symbolic ultra-high rise building, the sustainable architectural designs of the Seto City Shinanodai Elementary School and Minato Ward Shibaura Elementary School, as well as the designs of government buildings such as Kakegawa City Hall and Gifu Prefectural Office. His projects have received numerous awards, including the Public Building Award and Sustainable Architecture Award (both MLIT accolades), the JIA (Japan Institute of Architects) Sustainable Architecture Award, and the BCS (Building Contractors Association) Award. He is a registered first-class architect, an APEC architect, and holds the JIA and the AIA (American Institute of Architect) memberships.
