Risa Nakao

After completing her master's degree at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2007, she joined Nikken Sekkei. After working in electrical systems design, she now specializes in lighting and lighting environment design. She has received numerous awards both in Japan and abroad, including the Grand Prize in the Lighting Design Awards for the Nagano Densan New Headquarters Building (2013), the Japan Lighting Award at the “Tokyu Plaza Ginza” (2016), and a Merit Award at the North American Lighting Awards for the Chuo University Myogadani Campus (2025).

Light has the power to dramatically transform the impression of a space. Drawing on imagination and creativity, she strives to create designs that cherish the diverse sensations and experiences that light brings.
