Seiji Nishiyama joined Nikken Sekkei after completing his graduate degree in civil engineering at Osaka University in 1993. He moved to Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering in 2001, assuming his present position in 2022 after the Group's reorganization. In 1995, he was transferred to the Railway Technical Research Institute for four years, where he engaged in the preparation of design standards for railroad structures. Thereafter, he designed and consulted on elevated and underground stations for high-speed trains and large-scale underground facilities, etc. In recent years, he has managed the urban development, building design, and geotechnical engineering fields within the civil engineering domain. He has also been involved in the design of integrated building and railroad structures, and in social infrastructure for urban redevelopment projects, where he plays an important role as a bridge between urban, architectural, and civil engineering fields. He holds an engineering doctorate from the University of Tokyo (2002), and is a first-class registered architect and professional engineer (soil mechanics & foundation, railway engineering, and engineering management). He lectures at Hosei University, and holds memberships in the JSCE (Japan Society of Civil Engineers) and the JAEE (Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering).
