Tatsuya Hatori joined Nikken Sekkei in 1998 after graduating from Musashi Institute of Technology (now Tokyo City University). He specializes in architectural design. His major credits include Jimbocho Theater Building (2007), Sony City Osaki (now NBF Osaki Building) (2011), Toho Gakuen School of Music Chofu Campus Building No. 1 (2014), COOP Kyosai Plaza (2016), and TOYOTA WOVEN CITY (2024). His work has appeared in numerous national and international media. Major awards include a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Award for International Excellence (2018), a CTBUH (Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat) Innovation Award, a WAF (World Architecture Festival) award, an ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council Asia) Award Gold Medal, an AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan) Award (Works), a JIA (Japan Institute of Architects) Newcomer Award, a JIA Environmental Architecture Award Grand Prize, and a BCS (Building Contractors Association) Award, among others. He is a first-class registered architect, an APEC architect, and holds memberships in the AIJ and JIA. In addition, he has served as a part-time lecturer at The University of Tokyo Graduate School, Japan Women's University, and Tokyo City University. He is currently a visiting professor at Tokyo City University. Mr. Hatori developed his “Escape Map” as a tool to promote dialogue on tsunami event evacuation, which has been widely adopted throughout Japan. He is the author of Making an Evacuation Map to Protect Lives from Disasters.
