Building a town
This is a relocation plan for the headquarters of communication service (SNS) provider MIXI to consolidate its disparate Shibuya offices into "Shibuya Scramble Square". After discussing with the client how to improve internal communications, office functions were replaced with elements of Shibuya, the company’s home district. The office floor, where employees spend most of their time, is set up as a "town", with a fixed desk (“home”) at the center and an activity area (“shopping district”) for meetings and other activities around the perimeter to accelerate communications. The reception area is posed as a "museum.” With its symbolic wooden frame, through its changing exhibits, visitors can encounter “the new MIXI”. The "Bazaar", a casual collaboration space with abundant greenery, is a mix of cafes, convenience stores, studios, lounges, and various other venues designed to stimulate and engender new discoveries.
