Shigeki Sugiura joined Nikken Sekkei soon after graduating in 1991 from the Social Development Engineering Program of the Department of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology. He specializes in structural design and has been in his current position since 2020. Major projects for which he has been responsible include Seto Digital Tower (2003), Kyoto State Guest House (2005), Midland Square (2006), the Yaizu Shinkin Bank Headquarters Building (2007), the Astronomy building and Science & Technology building of Nagoya City Science Museum (2011), Chukyo TV Broadcasting Building (2015), New National Stadium (2013–2015, a Japan joint venture with Zaha Hadid Architects), competition for the Camp Nou soccer stadium (Barcelona, 2016) and Tsu City Business and Sports Center “Saorina” (2017). His design expertise extends from high-rise buildings and 200m+ high towers to large structures spanning over 350m in length. He is a registered first-class architect and a first-class structural architect, serves as Vice Chairman of the JSCA (Japan Structural Consultants Association), and is a member of the AIJ (Architecture Institute of Japan).
