Villa in the Sky
This new smart luxury hotel project is located 200 meters high, within Nakanoshima Festival Tower West in Nakanoshima, Osaka between two rivers, an area rich in culture and artistry. The hotel was designed as a special resort space slightly removed from the city in order to make the most of its locale as a kind of “floating palace in the air.” Various natural phenomena – the gentle breeze, flowing rivers, tree-filtered sunlight, rolling fog and the starry sky -- all “cohabit” the space to enable a feel for “the breath of life.” Architecture and art have been fused into a larger story that expressing these elements. The all-day dining room ceiling, for example, portrays a water pattern, while the seafood grill is reminiscent of a seafaring ship. In the Japanese restaurant, washi (lacquered Japanese paper) captures arboreal essence. The banquet room portrays the cosmos, while the spa uses minerals to represent the earth. At the end of a carpeted corridor reminiscent of a stream of stars, guests reach shoin-zukuri (traditional residential-style) rooms that “float” in the sky. In the suite bathrooms, vermilion-lacquered baths add a unique and glamorous charm to the natural elements.
