Toshihiko Kono completed his master’s degree at the University of Tokyo in 1982, and joined Nikken Sekkei in 1987 after working at Japanese National Railways. In charge of structural design for various architecture as a structural designer and received various awards for projects such as the Shizuoka Prefectural Government Office East Wing renovation (2000 JSCA [Japan Structural Consultants Association] Award), Midland Square (2007 JSSC [Japanese Society of Steel Construction] Award), Hoki Museum (2012 Japan Structural Design Award), NBF Osaki (2012 JSSI [Japan Society of Seismic Isolation] Award), and Toho Gakuen School of Music (2019 AIJ [the Architectural Institute of Japan] Prize, Architectural Design Division). Works on structural design that values human connections and creation based on the ideas of learning from the past, and immutability. He is also a member of the AIJ, JSCA, JSDC (Japan Structural Designers Club), and JIA (Japan Institute of Architects).
