Yasutaka Nishida

Yasutaka Nishida joined Nikken Sekkei in 1986 after completing his Master’s degree course at Kanazawa University. His area of specialization is urban planning. Urban development requires both fresh development and reorganization and upgrading of existing city districts. Mr. Nishida possesses a wide spectrum of planning skills necessary for this process, including land-use planning, road and traffic planning, underground-space planning and environmental-coexistence planning. Mr. Nishida gained vital experience in proposing basic urban recovery plans in 1995, when the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake struck. From that time onward, urban disaster-preparedness planning has been added to his areas of expertise. In 2009 a book he co-authored, Approaches and Directions in Urban Temperature Normalization Planning, was published (in Japanese). Drawing on his skills in basic urban planning, acquired over many years’ experience in urban planning in Japan, Mr. Nishida has recently turned his attention to TOD planning in China, where reorganization of urban infrastructure from a car-centered to a public-transit-centered focus is under way. He is a consulting engineer (construction) and member of the City Planning Institute of Japan.
