Making Modern Architectural Structures Designated as Important Cultural Properties Safe, User-Friendly, and Comfortable to Use
The Aichi Prefectural Government Main Building, completed in 1938, is a structure designated as an Important Cultural Property as one of Japan’s leading examples of the Imperial Crown architectural style. The building has been continuously used as a government office since its construction. It underwent seismic retrofitting to ensure safety against a massive earthquake in the Nankai Trough, followed by renovations—including the replacement of the copper-tiled roof and the renovation of restrooms—to extend the facility’s service life. Currently, plans are being considered to further improve the working environment while preserving its cultural heritage value.
