Osaka University Minoh Campus Research and Education Hub

The Minoh Campus serves as a hub for research on the world’s languages, cultures, and societies, and as a center for promoting the Japanese language and culture to the world through education for international students.The campus is not only a venue for academic exchange—such as international symposia and community forums—that fosters the co-creation of new knowledge, but also a hub for vibrant interaction with the local community through joint events like the Minoh International Festival, as well as the daily opening of the cafeteria and the piloti to the public. Osaka University operates the adjacent municipal library and lifelong learning facility, marking Japan’s first initiative in which the university and the city work as one to provide services not only to students but also to the general public. As a result, citizens have access to a wide range of foreign-language books, while students can browse general books even within the university library—creating a synergistic effect.From the planning stage onward, the university actively collaborated with the city and developers to envision the design of public spaces such as the plaza and promenade, spearheading the redevelopment of the Minoh-Senba area.The dynamic architectural form and the plaza integrated with the pilotis have become venues for student and citizen activities, generating a vibrant atmosphere that has been well-received by the general public.
