“Industry 4.0” Factory for Reindustrialization in Hong Kong
Digital Transformation (DX) and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are accelerating around the world. In preparation for the coming once-in-a-century economic and industrial restructuring wave, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has made a proposal for the re-industrialization of Hong Kong. Armed with keen future insight and experience in designing factories, logistics and research facilities, Nikken Sekkei responded to an unprecedented strategic request for an over 100,000-square meter, multi-tenant, multi-purpose, multi-story, and non-specific use factory, furnishing with the concept design and design development assistance. Focus was placed on the expected growth areas, including various smart devices, robotics, as well as health and medical fields. Aiming beyond the Fourth Industrial Revolution("Next 4.0”), a sustainable, smart, innovative prototype with a robust structure, flexible modular plan and state-of-the-art logistics centre was proposed, in order to create a model for advanced manufacturing that will generate future synergies among the diverse and cutting-edge companies which will occupy the facility.
