Public Spaces of Light and Wind
This city hall, located in Anan—the central city of southeastern Tokushima Prefecture—features a seismic isolation structure. With the atrium space “Anan Forum” at its heart, the building serves as a place where citizens can directly experience the collaborative efforts of “citizens, the city council, and the administration.” During events such as the Awa Odori dance festival, part of the building is opened to the public, allowing it to be used in conjunction with the adjacent plaza. Furthermore, the building visually illustrates environmental practices—such as the use of renewable energy and locally sourced timber—in an easy-to-understand manner, transforming the building itself into a venue for environmental education.
