Open-air public spaces that allow light and wind
A quake-resilient city hall building in Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku island in southwest Japan. The "Anan Forum" is an open-air space at the center of the city hall where citizens, city council members and administrators can feel a sense of closeness as they work together. During events such as the renowned Awa Odori dance festival, a portion of the building is opened to the public for coordinated use with the plaza. The building itself is a place for learning, allowing easy-to-understand visualization of environmental methods using natural energy and locally produced materials.
