Open-roof Space Yields a New Experience
Matsuyama University’s Bunkyo Campus "myu terrace” represents a new center of exchange for students and faculty. The location was made available by eliminating the old classroom building, which had cast a shadow on the courtyard. In its place, a figure-loop steel frame was built on top of the existing underground structure and topped with a minimalist-style roof. The resulting terrace connects the courtyard with the promenade, yielding a public space that forms a new core for campus life, a place where both the eye and the breeze can pass. The environment represents an original experience at the university for current students and visiting graduates.
