MIYASHITA PARK

MIYASHITA PARK is a mixed-use complex developed through a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) as part of the redevelopment project for Shibuya City’s Miyashita Park (opened in 1964), which features an urban planning parking garage on its lower levels. In addition to issues regarding seismic resistance and accessibility, the park prior to redevelopment was required to enhance amenities and strengthen disaster prevention capabilities in the Shibuya and Harajuku areas. NIKKEN SEKKEI participated in this project from the planning stage and, by utilizing the Multi-Story Urban Park System, promoted a plan to integrate the park, urban planning parking garage, commercial facilities, and hotel into the urban fabric in a multi-level configuration. This simultaneously achieved the effective use of valuable public land in central Tokyo and the modernization of the urban park. The open commercial space, centered around the outdoor mall, creates a new urban experience that connects the park and the city, demonstrating a mixed-use model in which public and commercial spaces mutually enhance each other’s value. Even after opening, the firm continues to provide consulting services aimed at enhancing the project’s value, taking into account facility operations and changes in the surrounding environment.
